And there’s one more thing to make you feel at home in Poprad… a good old fashioned duck pond.

Well, it’s a bit more than that really, a small lake just behind the ‘clone’ of Chelsea football club opposite AquaCity, has just been drained and relined so that locals can continue the old tradition of fishing for leisure.

The lake, which in the past was used as a  skating rink in the winter and now is home to fat perch, is a gentle touch in this little corner of the British-ness under the Tatras Mountains and has been taken over by a family of local ducks …

Dr Telensky said: “The lake is only small and it was decaying quickly, the water was vanishing, so we had it drained and relined – once again its a place for people to walk round on a summer evening or to spend some time pondering and thinking in peace and quiet under the mountains.”
