In this excerpt from a pilot for a potential new TV series, Riches to Rags, a lady to the manor born tells her personal tale of loss.
Lady Victoria Henrietta Fleetwood Starkey had it all, glamour, wealth and a 16 bedroom Georgian country house called Norwood, in Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
The house is famous for its beautiful orchards, a cricket ground, a lake, an abundance of attractive ponds and an ancient icehouse.
For many years Victoria was an important part of the family events and fruit business there.
Then it all went wrong … and now at the age of 74, she has faced court for harassment and assault and believes she might end up living in an old van.
Fay Goodman, of Goodmedia TV film productions, working with AM News Services on the series, said: “The film, which is part of Riches to Rags, opens with Lady Victoria and her story with echoes of loosing her family and feeling the isolation and loneliness which ensued.
“There are many reasons why perhaps this happens in families from physical to mental illness, family differences to the economic circumstances. so is blood really thicker than water?”
