As Noel Conway, aged 67, from Shropshire, fights for the right to die film-maker Louis Frost has allowed the ConsumerWatchFoundation to publish his moving short, She Said, which addresses the issue in many ways.
Mr Conway, a retired social sciences lecturer, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in November 2014 and does not expect to live more than a year. He says he is dependent on a ventilator to breathe overnight, and is losing his ability to move. He said: ‘If I let nature take its course, I could effectively become entombed in my own body… or I may die by suffocation or choking.’
The 1961 Suicide Act makes it a criminal offence for anyone to assist anyone to kill themselves.
Louis Frost, from Silver Lining Pictures, said: “I wanted to make a film that is tragically beautiful, a juxtaposition, something which is an emotional roller-coaster but also creates debate. She Said, was made in one day on a zero budget and I hope it will also inspire film-makers to keep at it even when facing financial difficulties.”
