When Brad Martin, from Birmingham, decided to build a snowman as Britain disappeared under the first blizzards of winter he thought he should do something ‘super’ to melt his girlfriend’s heart …
So, with Christmas getting ready to blow in and the media getting flaky over how you should – or shouldn’t – build the perfect snowman the idea of doing something different mushroomed in his mind.
“My girlfriend Mjriam is Italian and we both love Mario – so it seemed appropriate to build a Goomba out of snow,” Brad, aged 35, said.
Goombas are small, brown mushrooms and in many Mario games, they are the first enemy the player meets. Goombas have two feet and no visible arms.

Meanwhile, here’s the best advice on creating the perfect snowman…
Check for snow that is moist and packable. Scoop some up between your hands. Press it together, and if it forms into a ball, you’ll be able to make a snowman. Find a flat bit of lawn. If you build your snowman on a slope, it’ll fall over. And build your snowman in the shade.
